Our active volunteer network helps with both outdoor and indoor activities. Volunteers staff the refuge bookstore and giftshop, as well as coordinate activities and environmental education both at public events, and here at the refuge. In addition, our volunteers help support the objectives for Eastern Neck set forth by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service by participating in the following activities:

Birding - lead bird walks and maintain birdhouses
Gardening - maintain the gardens, especially the Butterfly Garden and Bayscaped garden at the Cape Chester House
Cleanups - remove debris and trash from trails, beaches, and marshes
Trail Maintenance - mow grass, construct decks, boardwalks, and paths
Surveys/Monitoring - collect data about waterfowl, invasive species etc
Hunting and Fishing - assist with the seasonal programs hosted by the refuge (deer, turkey hunts, and youth fishing events)
Special projects -  develop and assist special projects e.g. bluebird nesting box rehabilitation and survey

By volunteering at the Eastern Neck National Wildlife Refuge, you will be able to meet new people, learn new skills, and make a real difference to the refuge. If you are considering becoming a volunteer or have a group that would like to volunteer, please click on the button below.
