A big congratulations to the winners in our 2025 Friends of Eastern Neck Photo Contest “Focus on Eastern Neck”. Our winners are highlighted below. The contest was a great success and we received many entries. We want to thank everyone who entered our photo contest and who shared their wonderful photos with us! They all showed the beauty and essence of Eastern Neck Refuge.

We also want to thank our contest judge, Rodger Wilder. Rodger spent many hours going over the submissions. As we expected, it was not easy.

The winners are:

1st place:

Jennifer Glenn with “Butterfly Dreams”.

The photo of the Monarch is well-composed and a high quality photo with sharp focus on the Monarch and yellow flower.

The natural lighting highlights the vibrant orange, black, and white color of the butterfly’s wings.

Great job, Jennifer.

2nd place:

Nancy Taylor Lee with “Mr. Great Blue Heron”.

The focus of the Great Blue Heron, is sharp with clear details visible on its feathers and eye. The reeds and foliage in the background provide a natural context and texture.

The lighting is bright and even, allowing for a clear view of the bird’s coloring and features.

The colors are vibrant and true to life, showing the blue-gray plumage, the yellow bill, and the bright yellow eye of the bird.

Very nice picture, Nancy.

3rd place:

Sam Glenn with “Bug on Purple Flower” .

The image of the hummingbird moth is a good quality photograph, the hummingbird moth focus is sharp with clear details visible on its body and wings and a good composition.

The moth and the flowers stand out in a blurred background giving it a shallow depth of field.

The soft and even lighting highlights the colors and textures.

Thanks for the great photo. Nice work Sam.
